Pier 39 in San Francisco, California, is 1905 cargo pier that resembles a quaint wooden fishing village.  Located at the edge of Fisherman’s Wharf, it’s close to North Beach, Chinatown, and the Embarcadero. The area is easily accessible via the historic F Market streetcars.

There are shops, restaurants, a video arcade, street performances, an interpretive center for the Marine Mammal Center, the Aquarium of the Bay, virtual 3D rides, and views of California sea lions out on the docks on Pier 39′s marina.   What a terrific time! The marina is also home to the floating Forbes Island restaurant.

An unusual two-story carousel is one of the pier’s best features and it sits toward the end of the pier, right in the center.  Be a kid again, and enjoy it! From the pier you can see Angel Island, Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and the Bay Bridge. Blue & Gold Fleet’s Bay Cruises leave from Pier 39.

A sensational multi-media show, the San Francisco Experience, whisks you through a historical tour of the city, complete with Chinese New Year celebrations, fog, and an earthquake!

Pier 39 is a rollicking good time. All the restaurants are terrific.  (Neptune’s Castle, at the very end of the Pier, has an extraordinary view and menu.)

Get happy! The seals alone, and their whooping, hollering antics on Pier 39, are enough to bring on the good times.
